Musculoskeletal Treatment
Musculoskeletal pain treatment.
Millions of adults suffer with back and neck pain. It’s one of the most common – and most costly – health complaints in America. Millions of others suffer from shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, foot and ankle injuries and other problems related to the muscles, bones and joints. Or they have had total joint replacement surgery performed on their shoulders, hips or knees.
Such orthopedic problems require the most effective, most experienced care available and a customized therapy program that your therapist and your doctor agree is right for you.
As a physical therapist with three decades of experience, David Regan, PT, uses comprehensive hands-on techniques and proven modalities to treat musculoskeletal pain caused by injury, illness and disease conditions. By combining experienced care with one-on-one patient focus, he can help you achieve better results.
At Physical Therapy of Lake Charles, David can identify, manage and treat disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system as well as rehabilitate people after orthopedic surgery. He can treat postoperative joints, acute sports injuries, work injuries and more. He uses joint mobilization, heat/ice and electrical stimulation to expedite your recovery. If you have an injury or disease affecting your muscles, bones, ligaments or tendons, you will benefit from treatment. Some of the therapies he uses are:
- Manual therapy – This specialized form of physical therapy is delivered by the hands instead of devices. The goal of manual therapy is to place pressure on muscle tissue and mobilize joints in an effort to decrease pain caused by spasms, tension or joint dysfunction.
- Anodyne® infrared light therapy – This is a relatively new, clinically proven treatment option for people who suffer from pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, circulation difficulties and difficulty with wound healing. Anodyne is safe, painless, noninvasive light therapy that has helped tens of thousands of people all over the world.
- Lumbar stabilization – This form of therapy is designed to strengthen core muscles to support your spine and help prevent low back pain.
- TENS & electrical muscle stimulation – Electrical nerve and muscle stimulation methods may be used to treat pain and muscle spasms.
- Free weights & therapeutic exercise – Many of our patients benefit from using resistance machines, free weights and other exercise equipment to encourage flexibility and strength, such as the ergometer, recumbent bike and home exercise programs.
- Ultrasound – This modality offers deep heating therapy that can help deep joint tissues and improve stretching and flexibility in connective tissue and hands. It is particularly effective for repetitive-stress injuries and inflammation.
- Phonophoresis – This noninvasive treatment allows medication or topical pain-relieving gel to be delivered to underlying tissues. The biggest benefit of this treatment is that medication can be delivered locally to a desired area, ensuring that the part of the body that receives it is the part that needs it.
Because no two patients are the same, your specific treatment program may use one, two or several therapies and/or modalities to help relieve your pain and add flexibility, movement and improved function to your life.
